The church is located at popular Jigawa ward, along Bauchi road. Daily Trust gathered that the bomber disguised as a worshiper and joined the congregation in prayers before he blew himself up around 9:30 am.
A resident who gave his name as Mr Jibril said four worshipers including the pastor died on the spot.
“Four people including the pastor died on the spot. A woman who was critically injured was rushed to the Potiskum General Hospital, but she later died. The bomber came in, holding a bible and everyone thought he came for the Sunday service. That was how he gained access into the church and carried out the act,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Toyin Gbadegesin, confirmed the incident, saying five people died.
“A male suicide bomber, at about 10 o’clock this morning detonated a bomb at the Redeemed Church in Jigawa area of Potiskum, killing five persons including himself,” he said.
But, a hospital source said they received five corpses, while the injured woman who was brought in alive died at the hospital, making the figure six.
