Six suspected armed robbers and kidnappers have been arrested by police in Katsina after a gun duel at Kaliyawa-Mahuta village in the state.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, said on April 17 at about 05:00hrs, based on a tip off, the command succeeded in busting a syndicate gang.

He added that “The armed robbers were subdued after a fierce encounter with the command’s Special Anti Robbery Squad, (SARS) patrol team.”

He listed items recovered from the suspects to include, one AK47 rifle with 19 rounds of live ammunition, two locally made rifles, four empty magazines of AK47 rifle, one set of military camouflage, one jacket containing criminal charms and one face mask.

The suspects are: Muntari Jibrin, 25; Dabo Hassan, 60; Abdullahi Alhaji Samu, 20; Tukur Mamman, 20; Babangida Saidu, 27 and Ishaka Yusuf, 20.

Isah said the suspects have confessed to various armed robbery/kidnapping incidents along the highways in Zaria, Kaduna state and Funtua, Sabuwa and Dandume LGAs of Katsina State. 

He added that investigation is on with a view to arresting other members of the syndicate and also to recover more of their operational weapons before they would be charged to court.
