The month of April has come and gone but not without its fair share of drama, twists and turn that got Nigerians talking and expressing their feeling via social networks.

Here we have compiled a list of some of these things:

“Lazy Nigerian youths” tag: The president came under heavy criticism after stating that Nigerian youths were lazy and they did not want to work. This statement did not augur well with a lot of Nigerians especially the youths who were offended by his remarks. Other prominent Nigerians also reacted to the statement.

PMB’s visit to Trump: On April 30 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari paid a visit to American President Donald J. Trump in a bid to strengthen the bilateral ties between both countries as well as trade barriers, security etc

After the meeting, both presidents came out for a press conference.

In one of his tweets via his handle @MBuhari, He said” I had a very productive meeting with President Trump today at the White House. Key issues discussed – security, anti-corruption, trade, human rights, and humanitarian.”

Dino Melaye: The drama caused by the arrest, escape and rearrest of the embattled senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West senatorial district would not be forgotten in a hurry.

Melaye was arrested at the airport, while trying to leave the country. In a bid to escape, he jumped iout of a moving vehicle but was subsequently rearrested and taken to the hospital.

This got Nigerians talking especially some top politicians who were miffed at what transpired. They took to the social media expressing themselves and stating reasons they thought might be the reason for him trying to escape.

BBNaija drama: The 2018 edition of the reality TV series Big Brother Naija which was also known as “Double Wahala”, may have come and gone but it did not fail to leave a tale on people’s lips – fans and critics alike.

This edition which had about 20 housemates had its own fair share of drama, suspense, twists etc. The show ended on 22 April with 23-year old pilot Miracle Igbokwe emerging as the winner and Cynthia Nwadiora in second place. These two created a buzz on the social media for various reasons.

Herdsmen/Farmers clash: The month of April was indeed a bloody one following the incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen in various across the country.

This is one occurrence that would remain indelible in the minds of those who live in the communities affected by the clashes. States affected by these clashes are: Zamfara, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Kogi and Plateau.

Chimamanda/Hilary Clinton: Last week, the social media was “on fire” as Nigerians did not hesitate to air their opinions after Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie reacted to the twitter bio of former first lady and presidential aspirant of the United States of America, Mrs Hilary Clinton.

The controversy began when she told Mrs Clinton “In your Twitter account, the first word that describes you is ‘Wife.’ And then I think it’s ‘Mom,’ and then it’s ‘Grandmother,’”. Responding to those who criticized her, she responded via a post on Facebook “I am tired of Nigerians who read a headline and, without bothering to get details and context, jump on the outrage bandwagon and form lazy, shallow opinions.”

“I am tired of Nigerians cynically thinking of anybody in public life as a ‘brand.’ No, I am not a brand. I am a person who feels strongly about certain issues. I choose to talk honestly about them. I made the choice to talk about feminism knowing very well the kind of hostility it brings – but I think it’s important and I will continue to speak my truth and hope to bring about some change, no matter how small.”
