6 smugglers arrested with N31m bags of rice in Katsina

The Katsina/Kaduna custom command has arrested six suspected smugglers and recovered about 1,225 bags of rice estimated at N31 million in the last four weeks.

Briefing newsmen, the command’s controller, Comptroller Kayode Olusemire, said 22 vehicles and 12 motorcycles used in the crime were also in custody while those arrested are presently on administrative bail.

According to him, “in two weeks alone we had 24 seizures. We normally gather these recovered items and await further directives. Also only recently, 27 trailers loaded with rice were released and taken to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps,” he said.
