6 suspected tricycle thieves arrested in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of six suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, theft, and the receiving of stolen property.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the first five suspects—identified as Salim Zakari (20), Faruk Abubakar (17), Yusuf Garba (20), Mansur Shehu (19), and Safiyanu Suleiman (23)—were arrested following a report by one Ayuba Muhammad. Muhammad alleged that his tricycle was stolen at Panshekara Quarters, Kano, on January 24.

The stolen tricycle, with Registration Number BBR 195 CB and KAROTA Number KMC 1229 and valued at N3,500,000, was reportedly sold to one Umar Bello Dahiru (24) for N2,600,000.

Kiyawa said the suspects further confessed to stealing another tricycle from the residence of Abdullahi Adamu at Yankusa Quarters, Kano, which was also sold to Dahiru for N2,700,000. According to the spokesperson, a discreet investigation led to the arrest of Dahiru, the sixth suspect, in whose possession the two stolen tricycles were discovered.

Kiyawa added that a horse valued at N800,000, which was purchased by the principal suspects with the proceeds of the crime, was also recovered. 

He said Umar Bello Dahiru confessed to buying the tricycles despite knowing they were stolen property.

The recovered tricycles have been returned to their respective owners, Ayuba Muhammad and Abdullahi Adamu. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, the command added.
