 July the seventh month of the year was a month filled with lots of dramas, intrigues, twists and turns. As the month rolled by, several happenings took place around the country especially in the nation’s seat of power.

What were the most talked about events in July? Below is a compilation of some things that set the social media on “fire”.

Massive defection of lawmakers: Nigeria’s political terrain witnessed a large exodus of lawmakers in the upper and lower house chambers as they migrated from the ruling party (APC) to the opposition party (PDP). This movement caused a lot of stir on the social media as many Nigerians welcomed the move, with some saying it is not okay.

 

Ekiti elections: Several reactions trailed the result of the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti state which saw the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi, emerging as the winner. Some Nigerians on social media shared different opinions. While some expressed joy that the incumbent governor Ayo Fayose had been defeated after owing salaries of civil servants for months, others wondered why Nigerians voted for the APC candidate despite the state of the nation.

World cup finals: Nigeria’s presence at the 2018 edition of the World cup Russia 2018 would be the sixth time the country was represented and though the event may have come and gone but it left indelible marks and lasting impressions in the minds of Soccer-loving Nigerians, some of whom felt this was one of the fairest world cup ever despite the minor lapses as well as Nigeria’s early exit from the competition.

4 eggs: One of the stories that trended online in July was the case of a man who slapped his girlfriend who wanted to fry four eggs.

It led to several reactions on the social media as some felt that the lady was greedy because she wanted to eat the eggs and others questioned the man’s reaction, saying it was callous and uncalled for.

Siege on Saraki/Ekweremadu’s house: The political ambience of Nigeria was sparked by the siege of Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s residence and that of his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Reacting on social media, some Nigerians described it as “an act of tyranny” and a “sad day for democracy.”

 

Adeosun’s NYSC certificate saga: The social media also experienced another sharp outburst as reactions from Nigerians trailed the report of how finance minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, skipped the mandatory one year national service course, but rather faked exemption certificate years late.

Some called for her resignation while others felt that she was doing her work well.
