The Jigawa Chapter of the Maize Farmers Association of Nigeria says it has so far registered 1,500 farmers for 2020 dry season farming in the state.

Alhaji Yusuf Hassan, the state Chairman of the association disclosed this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Hadejia.

Hassan said that the association targeted 6,000 farmers at the end of the exercise.

He said farmers captured in the registration would benefit from farm inputs through loans under the Federal Government Anchor Borrowers’ Programme.

Hassan said each of the farmers would receive between N90,000 and N100,000 worth of inputs including fertiliser, pesticides, herbicides, seeds, sprayer and bags, under the programme.

The chairman identified indiscriminate release of water by dams in neighbouring states as one of the major problems facing farmers in the state. (NAN)
