The origins of the IAA can be traced back to more than 100 years. In 1897, 8 motor vehicles were exhibited to the public at the Bristol Hotel in Berlin. From these humble beginnings, a regular exhibition was established that, due to its high visitor turnout, had to be separated into an alternating exhibition of passenger cars and commercial vehicles in 1991.

This year the theme show for the commercial vehicles was “drive the future” and exhibitors from all round the world participated. From a broad spectrum the IAA provides a comprehensive overview of the international commercial vehicle industry, Trucks, tractor, Light commercial vehicles, Buses, Special motor vehicles, Trailers, bodies and containers for vehicles and systems, Vehicle interior – Fixtures and Equipment, Parts and accessories, Transport logistics, Equipment used for servicing, repair and maintenance of products, Professional literature and periodicals, Organizations and corporations related to vehicle technology, motor vehicle traffic or transportation , Model cars, Services, E-Mobility, Specialist Events and Special shows, Test drives.

Noticeably Daimler had one hall almost the size of three quarter of eagle square, the biggest of all. All of the exhibitors had one common thing which was meeting new emission standards. This was one of the reasons why Mercedes Benz bus called the “Citaro” won ‘Bus of the Year’ award. In all the markets mentioned, Africa was not addressed as a concern. Even the trucks that come to Nigerian such as the euro 2 trucks from Volkswagen were rarely seen. We had learnt from MAN Latin America that Euro 2 engine required less expertise and for this event could not meet with the emission standard.
