About 650 security personnel employed under Lynx Security Consultant Limited by Kaduna Polytechnic have protested the non-payment of over four months’ salary arrears after they were sacked eight months ago by the new Rector, Professor Idris Bugaje.
The Chairman of the committee constituted by the retrenched staff, Danladi Audi said each staff is being owed N60,000 amounting to N39million. According to him, four of the retrenched workers had died while waiting to get their money.
“Security personnel in Kadpoly were sacked immediately the new Rector assumed duty. There was no warning, all we heard was that we have been sacked and our replacements had already been drafted to the school. We are not questioning why we were sacked, we just want the institution to pay us our money so that we can use it to take care of our families. Four of our colleagues have already died waiting for their money.”
He called on the government, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Human Rights Commission (HRC) to come to their aid.
When contacted, the bursar of Kaduna Polytechnic, Garba Ya’u Nabayi said he is not aware of the issue. "I assumed office as bursar of the Polytechnic January this year, so I am not aware," he said.
