Traders at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), have expressed mixed feelings on patronage as the Games enters its second day.

Some of the traders who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews on Thursday complained of low patronage while others are already counting their gains.

A food seller, Sisi Toyin, said she has so far experienced good patronage in her food sales since her arrival on Tuesday.

Toyin who sells Amala with abula (gbegiri and ewedu), semo, eba and other “swallows”, said though people were complaining of lack of money, they still bought to keep their bodies together.

”This is my first time coming here to sell but I was advised to sell food or any edible because of the little money in circulation.

”So, it has been a good experience for me since I arrived here,” she said.

Another food seller, Mrs Ada Titus, who sells pepper soup, noodles and eggs also said she has been experiencing good patronage even though it is low compared to what was experienced last year.

A cloth seller, Malam Kabir Muhammed, said patronage is not the way it used to be due to the economic situation in the country.

”This is my third year of coming to the NYG and it has never been like this.

”Even as they are just starting the Games, we would have been seeing more sales than what we are witnessing.

”I pray that things get better in the country so that sellers can also smile,” said Muhammed.  (NAN)
