Seven persons have on Tuesday appeared before a magistrates’ court in Lokoja, Kogi State, for assaulting a staff of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

The accused were charged with criminal conspiracy, trespass, mischief and causing grievous hurt.

The prosecutor, G. O. Olowu, told the court that the defendants invaded the Lokoja office of AEDC on June 9, and attacked a staff of the company, Mr Olanrewaju John-Femi, over an allegation that he stole their cable, and that in the process inflicted head injuries on him.

The prosecutor further said the defendants destroyed John-Fem’s cell phones, one desktop computer, two plastic chairs and customers’ bills.

The accused persons, Abiodun Ariya, Joseph Damilola-Ibitoye, Adeoye Femi, Abdulrazak Sadiq, Ibrahim Toba, Mary David and Hassan Lawal, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, A.M. Mopa, admitted the seven accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety in like sum each and adjourned to July 12.
