Seven persons are feared dead while six sustained varying degrees of injuries in a motor accident along Ogidi-Abatete road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The accident, which happened around 5.15pm on Friday, involved a Mercedes tipper loaded with sand and a 608 bus.
An eyewitness, Uche Okafor, said the tipper’s tyre bursted and the driver lost control and collided with a bus conveying 19 family members traveling for a burial ceremony. He stated that he counted not less than seven persons dead.
Confirming the accident in a statement on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, Pascal Anigbo said four persons died in the accident later in the hospital, while another six who sustained injuries were still receiving treatment.
According to him, the four corpses have been deposited at the hospital morgue, while the injured were receiving treatment.
