The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed seven hectares of cannabis farms in the Elugu-Egugu forest of the Olamaboro Local Government Area in Kogi State.

The NDLEA Commander in the state, Umar Yahuza, disclosed this in Lokoja, adding that the command also arrested suspects on the cannabis farms during the raids.

According to a statement issued by the command’s Head of Media and Advocacy, Dahiru Abdulsalam, the operation was a result of credible intelligence reports from citizens.

The statement noted that this information allowed officers to quickly take action, raiding the farm and arresting the suspects in the early hours of Thursday.

“The command has also intercepted several shipments of hard drugs moving through the state to other parts of the country. We have seized more than 369 kilograms of assorted hard drugs in the month of August alone,” Yahuza said.

The seized drugs, he added, included cannabis sativa and psychotropic substances.

“These successes were achieved through intelligence-led operations, in line with the current leadership of the agency led by Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa (rtd),” he added.

Yahuza further stated that the command had embarked on a series of sensitization tours to various communities in the state, educating and informing them about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
