At least seven people, including a police escort, sustained various degrees of injury in an accident involving a bullion van and a Toyota Camry near the Julius Berger roundabout, along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway in Abuja.

Abuja Metro reports that the accident occurred at about 2:45 pm following a collision between the two vehicles.

A witness, Hassan Umar, noted that the crash caused a significant traffic jam along the ever-busy expressway.

According to Umar, the bullion van rammed into the Camry from behind, causing severe damage to the car.

He said the impact caused the bullion van to somersault three times before it landed in a drainage.

The witness said three occupants of the bullion van were evacuated immediately, adding that the cash being transported in the van was transferred to a backup escort vehicle, which departed the scene shortly after the incident.

The witness, who claimed to be acquainted with the occupants of the Toyota Camry, identified the injured as Ibrahim Isaac (31) – Driver, Muhammad Obago (32), Sanni Uzanga (30) and Kabiru Usman (25)

He said the victims sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja.

Police officers at the scene confirmed they responded to a distress call from the control room.

One officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said investigations have commenced to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Abuja Metro reports that a similar incident occurred near the same location last month, also resulting in multiple injuries.
