Seven journalists, including six staff members of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) in Gombe, have died in a motor accident on the Gombe–Yola Highway while returning from a wedding in Kaltungo LGA, Gombe State.

The deceased are Manu Haruna Kwami (Manager, Admin), Hajiya Zarah Umar Adamu (Manager, News), Isa Editor (Cameraman), Musa Jibrin Tabra (Retired Manager, News), Malam Aminu (Driver), Adams Danladi (Startimes), and Judith Kudus, an Information Officer with the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Four others—Emmanuel Akila (Government House Correspondent, NTA), Steven Doddo (NTA Marketing), Nina Gadal (State Ministry of Information), and Jonathan Bara—were severely injured and rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for treatment.

The accident occurred on Monday when a tyre of the black Hummer bus carrying 11 passengers burst around Ladongor, between Billiri and Kumo. The journalists were returning from the wedding of their colleague, Balgum Samari.

Gombe Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident.

FRSC Team Leader AM Saddam said the injured were initially taken to Amana Clinic and Billiri General Hospital before being transferred to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe.

The deceased were deposited at the State Specialists Hospital Mortuary.

The funeral prayer for five of the victims is scheduled for Tuesday at the Emir’s Palace, Gombe.
