The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abdulrahman Akano, assured that the police were working with other security agencies to nip such incidents in the bud and will step up investigations into the matter with a view to get to its roots.
Acting spokesman of the STF, Navy Lt. Jerry Ayim-odu, said the STF suspects Fulani to be behind the attack adding that investigations has been handed over to the police. “Yes, the attackers are suspected to be Fulani because by the time our troops got there, they trailed the assailants, though no arrests were made but the troops did not get any of them. But while trailing them, the troops found some empty cases of cartridges, they also found the daggers mostly used by the Fulani. However, we are not sure. That is why we say we are suspecting, but the police investigation will confirm who the assailants are.”
He said two of the victims are men, while the remaining five are women and children.
Our correspondent learnt that the four people injured are currently receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) while the dead ones have been buried in a mass grave by their relations.
The latest attack is said to be the fifth on villages in Jos South and Bassa local government areas within the last two months.
