Suspected criminals attacked a park in Gboko, Benue state, Wednesday morning, killing seven people, police have confirmed.

State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said, “The victims were attacked right in the park while trying to board a vehicle to Okene, some said they were going to Taraba. The police rushed to the park on getting the information and the report was that the criminals threw stones on police which made the situation out of control.

"We have gone there for on the spot assessment and Governor Samuel Ortom has also gone there for on the spot assessment. We have information that would help us to get the criminals. There is no colouration to criminal and we are looking at the case as act of criminality. It’s not religious, political or tribalistic," he said.

Owoseni added that some criminal elements are planning in and out of the state to attack settlements around border areas of Nasarawa and Benue states as reprisal of the Kadarako killings. warning that the plan would further escalate security issues in the state.

It comes shortly after the state government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Gboko town, effectively immediately and indefinitely.
