Following a free-for-all fight between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and their counterparts of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) last week in Ore, Ondo State, seven persons have been charged to court and subsequently sent to prison.

The spokesman for the Ondo State police command, Femi Joseph, warned trouble makers in the state to toe the line of peace or be ready to face the full weight of the law.

The command said it would not condone any form of violence from any group or individual, as the law would be applied to deal with anybody, irrespective of their status.

It would be recalled that many people sustained various degrees of injuries during a violent clash between the NURTW and RTEAN in the Odigbo local government area of the state.

Mr Joseph, who spoke with Daily Trust on the matter, said the police arrested about nine suspects in connection with the crisis, and that the suspects had already been charged to court.

Joseph said the command had mapped out strategies necessary to deal with people of dubious character breaching the peace in the state in the name of fighting for leadership.

The PPRO, who commended the policemen in the Ore axis, for their prompt response to the crisis, disclosed that more police personnel had been drafted to the head offices of the two unions to ensure that the peace restored to the area was sustained.

He said that the suspects charged to court had been remanded in prison custody.
