Seven officers and nine soldiers on Saturday received the Chief of Army Staff’s commendation award during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2020 held in Army Super Camp in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The deserving officers and soldiers received awards owing to their ingenuity, operational excellence, professional competence, gallantry and contribution to the development of the Nigerian army and the country.

Among the award recipients were Lieutenant Colonel Emanuel Ikom who rescued 3,000 civilians during a counter-terrorism operation in Borno State and Private Isah Umar who rescued 27 schoolchildren from a burning school bus in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Speaking before the presentation of the awards, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, said he has repositioned the Nigerian army by addressing their manpower needs during his five-year stewardship as Chief of Army Staff. He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the National Assembly and the Chief of Defence Staff for their unflinching support to the Nigerian army.
During the event, The Compendium of Nigerian Army Transformation: The Buratai years 2015 – 2020 was also unveiled.
