The eye treatment programmed is sponsored by the state commissioner for information, Chief Akin Ricketts, a community outreach effort to alleviate some of the predicaments of his people.
The treatment, which include provision of free drugs, reading eye and corrective glasses as well as surgery for those with cataract and glaucoma, is aimed at providing succour to the less privileged and physically impaired in the area.
Chief Ricketts, said out of the  700 patients, 400 patients come from Yakurr 1 state constituency and over 300 from Yakurr II state constituency.
He said the programme is in partnership with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, which informed his decision to bring the exercise closer to those who need it most.
Rickets said he facilitated the programme in Yakurr Local Government Area due to the feedback he got from his findings about the case of unavoidable blindness prevalence in the area.
He said the programme started last December in Ugep for Yakurr 1 state constituency with eight villages as beneficiaries adding that the exercise would  be concluded in February 17 for those with surgical needs in Yakurr II constituency,  which has seven communities to round off  the outreach.
The commissioner urged people with eye problem to always visit the nearest health centres in their localities to get immediate medical attention rather than sit at home for endless treatment.
