Honda said that defective spring parts had been found in its Freed compact minivan, Fit compact car and City sedan that could deteriorate over time, resulting in abnormal sounds and in the worst case lead to stalling. According to newzfor.me, “the spring was placed improperly in a small box inside the engine”.

On a phone call with Mr Arvind, Branch Manager of Stallion Motors, Abuja, he said the vehicle are “tropicalised” and they “have not been informed” of the defect from Honda, Japan.

Irrespective of that is Mr Arvind also assured us if any information on this issue is received from Japan, they “will inform us” for the benefit of their customers.

The latest action will affect over 220,000 units in Asia, mainly the Southeast Asian area, and about 156,000 in China, she said. Around 97,000 units will be recalled in the United States. As it turns out, many of the Honda Accords driven here in Abuja are also American specification, and are not handled by Stallion Motors.

No accidents associated with the defect have been reported.

However, Honda has now recalled more than four million vehicles since February 2010, over a range of different issues, while Nissan has pulled out around 3.5 million in the same period. This brings to question, the practice of quality control from auto industry- just as it started with Toyota.
