Seventy two persons obtained first class degrees during the maiden convocation ceremony of the Federal University, Otuoke, in Bayelsa State, while 462 others graduated with second class upper division.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Seth Accra Jaja, who disclosed this on Saturday during the convocation ceremony, said a total of 1,121 students obtained various degrees.

Congratulating the graduands, Prof. Jaja admonished them to be innovative and live independent lives while pursuing various entrepreneurial opportunities.

He announced that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved 16 additional programmes for the institution, bringing the total programmes offered to 28.

“It is worthy to recall that between the 2011/2012 and 2015/2016 academic sessions, the university ran 12 academic programmes. This situation limited the number of prospective students offered admission into the university.

“On assumption of duty in 2016, the first major challenge I faced was how to bridge this gap,” the VC said.
