73-yr-old farmer beheaded in Anambra

A 73-year-old man was at the weekend beheaded by armed men in his farm at Akuzor Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The deceased, Obadiah Eliaku, was said to have gone to work on his farm with his son, Cheta, on the Nkisi River bank, when he was reportedly attacked by armed men wielding different kinds of weapons.

Daily Trust gathered that the headless body of the deceased was later found by some members of the community following an alarm raised by his son who escaped unhurt.

A community leader in the area, Mr. Chris Udeze, told newsmen that the incident might not be unconnected with a land dispute between Nkpor and Oze communities in Oyi Local Government Area, promising that the community would unravel the assailants.

Reacting, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr.  Garba Umar, urged communities in the state to follow due process in resolving land disputes, while assuring that the killers would be tracked.

He said the body of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary.
