The special national convention committee led by Professor Jerry Gana had on Thursday deferred the election for the position of national secretary due to a pending court action.
A breakdown of the list of candidates from the national secretariat of the party indicates that six persons are contesting for the position of the deputy national chairman, two for deputy national secretary, two for national organising secretary, six for deputy national organsing secretary, 11 for national publicity secretary, three for deputy national publicity secretary, two for national treasurer, one for deputy national treasurer, one for national legal adviser, one for deputy national adviser, 10 for national woman leader, one for deputy national woman leader, six for national youth leader, four for deputy national youth leader, one for deputy national financial secretary, one for deputy national auditor, and 17 for national ex officio member.
About 3500 delegates are expected from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Screening Committee chaired by the Senate Leader, Senator Ndoma Egba, yesterday screened the aspirants at Rockview Hotel, Abuja.
 Chairman of the media and publicity committee of the convention planning committee and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, told newsmen that adequate preparations have been made to ensure a hitch free congress.
He said there are 146 voting points with same number of people voting at a time, adding that it will fasten the process of voting. About 3500 delegates are expected to cast their votes. “Voting would be concluded on time because it commences as soon as the President arrives. It is expected to be concluded within three hours after which sorting would commence,” Ihedioha stated.
Ihedioha said all positions would be voted for to avoid the pitfall of the past where those who won by affirmation in the past had their election flawed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said all outstanding issues pertaining to the convention would be resolved today.
