Kaduna State government has been advised to include cemetery workers as part of the 774,000 people to be recruited under the Federal Government’s Special Works Project across the country.

About 23,000 vulnerable youths and women are expected to benefit across the 23 LGAs of the state.

The Ward Head of Unguwar Yazufa in Hayin Danmani, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Bida, who made the call while talking with Arewa Trust Weekly said it was unfortunate that cemetery workers have no salaries from local governments or private organisations even when they have families to cater for.

Bida, who is the Chairman of Muslim Cemetery Managers of Nigeria said, “Our members have no salary or allowances from government yet they work daily at various cemeteries. Therefore, we feel they should be included in the special work project and also the N-Power scheme.”

He advised government to ensure that only the vulnerable are recruited in the project and warned local politicians to stay off the recruitment process.

While expressing worry over the poor condition of most Muslim cemeteries in the country, the ward head urged wealthy individuals to help improve the standard of cemeteries as the last abode for every human being.
