Six Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams and two non-league sides will be participating in the Bayelsa Pre-Season Football Tournament in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.

The Coordinator of the tournament, Mr. Diseye Nwankwe, in a statement made available to journalists yesterday said the competition will be held from August 10 to 16 at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa.

According to him, Bendel Insurance, El-Kanemi Warriors, Enugu Rangers, Kun Khalifa FC of Owerri, newly promoted Warri Wolves, Bayelsa United, Prosperity Cup champions, Eternal Grace Ministry, EGM FC and Bayelsa United U-20 team will take part in the pre-season tournament.

He explained that the arrival and draws would be held on Sunday, August 10, while the tournament proper will kick-off on Monday August11 to 16. 

Nwankwe stated that the essence of the pre-season tournament was to put Bayelsa United in shape ahead of the new 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL season scheduled to kick off on August 22.

He appreciated the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and the Commissioner for Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali, for ensuring that Bayelsa United enjoy adequate preparation for the new season.
