Eight fraudsters have been arrested in Ogun State for swindling members of the public of the sum of N15 million.

The suspects are Hadi Ibikanmi (20), Hounkpe Stephen (29), Ayinla Ibikanmi (23), Lepe Omoniyi (26), Olabisi Opeifa (29), Sulaimon Yakub (25), Samuel Ayerin (24) and Juliet Maderubami (28).

The Commander of the Ogun State Security Network, alias Amotekun Corps, David Akinremi, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday.

He said the suspects were arrested on Friday, September 30, at their hideout in Idiroko area of Ipokia LGA.

He said the suspects defrauded their victims on the pretense of doing online business investment with them and also facilitating admission for them in a foreign university.

He disclosed that the suspects were previously operating in Benin Republic, but relocated to Nigeria after they were dislodged by the authorities in Benin.

He added that, “It is also pertinent to state here that after the arrest of these suspects, 10 other victims of the fraudulent activities appeared, making similar allegations of having been defrauded in similar circumstances.

“The suspects, when interrogated, admitted that they received various sums of money from the complainants but that it was for the purpose of online business with a company domiciled in Malaysia.

“According to them, when the monies were collected in cash, they handed over same to one Bruno (now at large) who is their boss and he in turn converted them to dollars and paid into an account which they were not privy to.”

He added that effort was ongoing to apprehend the said leader of the syndicate.
