Eight pupils have been killed and 11 others injured following an auto crash along Gaya-Gujungu road in Kano state.
Confirming the incident to Kano Chronicle, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr Angus Obum Ibezim, said the victims were pupils of Qur’anic school (Almajiri).
He said they were traveling to Minna, Niger state in search of Qur’anic knowledge when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The sector commander said the vehicle that involved in the accident was carrying 23 pupils.
He said the causes of the accident include over-speeding, overloading, tyre burst which led the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Mr Ibezim therefore urged drivers to avoid over-speeding, overload and other offences, while appealing to passengers to always ensure that commercial drivers comply with traffic rules and regulations.
He said, “Passengers should always ensure that drivers comply with traffic rules at least for their safety and comfort. They should insist on their rights and ensure that the drivers follow the laid downguidelines of driving on highways.”
Our reporter gathered that, the victims were from Kawari village of Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa state.
