An eight-man robbery gang who specialise in dispossessing people of their properties around the city of Yenagoa have been arrested by the police.

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah said one Saviour Johnson and two others who are now at large on February 4, 2018 allegedly attacked and robbed one Edisemi Robinson of phones and other valuables.

He listed items recovered from the suspected criminals to include, one AK-47 riffle, seven locally made pistol, four locally made single barrel gun, a Toyota saloon car, three cutlasses, eight live cartridges, tramadol and some weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.

Anwunah also paraded a suspected drug trafficker, who on January 30 allegedly attempted to snatch a riffle from a Sergeant at Igbogene axis of Yenagoa, but was over powered and shot in the leg.

He said policemen on routine search along Shell Ramp road in Yenagoa also arrested one Mabinton Talent, a native of Yenagoa with one locally made gun, live cartridge, saying investigation is ongoing on the matter and culprits would soon be charged to court.

“The proliferation of small arms and light weapons has posed a greater challenge in combating cases of armed robbery in Bayelsa, but undeterred by that, men in the command in collaboration with the public and intensive surveillance have smashed many armed robbery gangs,” Awunah said.
