The Catholic Dioceses of Auchi in Edo State has disclosed that eight priests of the dioceses were abducted by kidnappers with one killed in the last five years in Edo North area of Edo State.

The dioceses made this known in a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa, Director of Communications while announcing the kidnap of Rev Philip Ekeli and a Seminarian, Peter Andrew.

He said the dioceses only celebrated the 22nd anniversary of its inauguration, but in the last five years, over eight priests have been kidnapped, with one murdered in 2022.”  

 He said, “The Catholic Diocese of Auchi announces that the priest’s rectory and church of St Peter Catholic Church, Iviukhua-Agenebode, Etsako East local of Edo State, was violently attacked by gunmen.

‘’Doors and windows in both the rectory and church were pulled down accompanied by gunshots.”
