Speaking with newsmen in Katsina,  Kaita said over 80 percent of Nigerians live in rented houses and this should not be the case giving the resources, especially vast land for massive construction of houses.
According to him, majority of civil servants in the country spend much of their income on rent payment, pointing out that the situation was different in South Africa and other African countries.
It was based on this, he said, that Katsina State government deemed it necessary to come to the aid of its workers to secure decent accommodation and had therefore embarked on massive housing programme.
He said within the last seven years, about 2,050 houses were constructed in the state and allocated to civil servants and private individuals.
“Currently, government is constructing about 250 houses at Kabukawa village and will be completed by December this year,” he said.
Another construction of 130 houses has commenced in Abuja to be allocated to indigenes of the state, he added.
On road construction, the commissioner explained that about 2,022 kilometres of roads were constructed within the last seven years linking many communities and boosting economic activities in the rural areas.
