Disclosing this in Abuja at a farewell ceremony for the students, NITDA’s Director General, Peter Olu Jack said the government decided to send them abroad to continue their education in IT related fields to bolster Nigeria’s IT industry.
Nigeria still needs many experts in IT related fields to help develop the economy, he said, adding that FG had realised that IT is the magic wand with which to transform the economy.
The 80 students were those who passed the tests conducted by the organization with flying colours, according to him.
To qualify for the tests, a graduate of engineering or IT related course of any Nigerian university will have to apply for scholarship through NITDA and may be called for an aptitude test thereafter, according to the agency.
