800 gov’t-sponsored students complete studies

The Kano State government has said that from June 2015 to date over 800 students it sponsored abroad for various programmes have completed their studies and returned home.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the State Governor, Malam Abba Anwar.

According to the statement, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Scholarship Board, Professor Fatima Umar made the disclosure during a scholarship award presentation to 10 students selected from state-owned tertiary institutions for PhD study at Near East University, Cyprus, held at Africa House, Government House, Kano.

Professor Fatima said some of the students had already been employed, adding that under the same academic partnership between the state and Cyprus, 19 students were in Cyprus studying for Post graduate and undergraduate programmes.

The state Deputy Governor, who doubles as Commissioner for Education, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, said the French government sponsored 11 indigenes to Cyprus for studies in 2015.
