Beneficiaries of a health intervention programme for pregnant mothers and malnourished children have commended the wife of the Bauchi state governor, Hadiza Abubakar for providing her intervention.

They made the commendation in Toro local government area of Bauchi state after receiving delivery kits and nutritional food for malnourished children.

Some 800 pregnant women benefited and were given delivery kits which contained surgical blades, bleach, cotton, sanitary pads, surgical gloves, baby shawl amongst other items.

The health intervention programme is aimed at supporting pregnant mothers and reducing maternal and infant mortality rate in the state.

Speaking, wife of the state Governor, Hadiza Mohammed at a primary health centre in Magama Gumau in Toro local government area of Bauchi state, said that three local government areas of Ningi, Toro and Katagum were selected from each of the senatorial zones of the state to benefit from the second phase of the maternal and infant health intervention programme.

Represented by the wife of the State Deputy Governor, Fatima Nuhu Gidado said that a total of 600 nutritional packs were prepared under hygienic and standard specification using millet, soya beans and groundnuts to provide nutrients to malnourished children in all the three selected centres.

According to her, her Non-Governmental Organisation ( NGO) Bauchi Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and peace Initiative (B-SWEEP) under its maternal and child Healthcare delivery objective, launched a similar intervention at Alkaleri, Nabayi and Tsaffi communities where 600 pregnant women  and 1000 malnourished children benefited from the programme.

Some of the beneficiaries of who spoke, described the health intervention programme as the first of it kind in the area, saying that it has alleviated the plight of pregnant women and malnourished children living in rural areas.

Zuwaira Nasiru, a pregnant mother said the delivery kits donated by the wife of the governor assist pregnant women to have safe delivery and reduce complications during delivery.

Two other beneficiaries, Maimuna Mohammed and Amina Jamilo commended the health initiative, describing it as a relief to husbands who bear the burden of catering for the expenses of child delivery.
