Keffi Local Government Area in Nasarawa State has enrolled 8000 children in schools, chairman of the local government, Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro, said when he received members of the state House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He said, “I want to inform you that I have enrolled over 8,000 children into both primary and junior secondary schools considering the importance of education to societal development.

Alhaji Abdulrahman Maigoro said the children who benefitted from the programme are children of the poor and orphans among others.

“They want to be in school to achieve their dream of being professionals in one endeavour or the other and be able to contribute their quota in nation building later in life and not to be bad elements in the society,” he said.

The chairman lauded the assembly for supporting autonomy of the local governments and promised to key into people-oriented projects for the benefit of all.

In his remarks, chairman of the committee Alhaji Mohammed Alkali said the visit was part of the House’s oversight aimed at repositioning the local government system in the state, adding that members of the House were happy that the issue of percentage salary payment had been dropped in the state.

“For four months now, we are happy that workers at the local government are receiving their salaries 100 per cent,” he said.

The chairman assured of the assembly’s readiness to pass laws and resolutions that would have positive impact on the lives of the people of the state.
