No fewer than 867 registered voters are participating in Sunday’s Niger republic presidential re-run poll at the Sokoto polling centre.

The Official of the country’s Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), Mr Saley Baare made told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Sokoto on Sunday.

Baare said that the registered voters were the country’s citizens resident in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States.

He said that the two leading presidential candidates were participating in the rerun election.

They are the incumbent president, Muhammadou Isoufo of PNDS Tarayya and leading opposition candidate, Hamma Ahmadou of Modem FA Loumana.

Isoufu and Ahmadou scored 48.41 per cent and 17 per cent respectively, in the first round of the poll conducted on Feb.21.

Baare said that the two polling centres in Sokoto opened at around 8.00am and they would close by 7.00pm.

” So far, so good, voting is going on smoothly and there was no any major incident,"nhe explained.

Two supporters of PNDS Tarayya, Ibrahim Ousmane and Abubakar Idrisa expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made by CENI.

None of the members of the opposition Modem FA Loumana was seen at the polling centres in Sokoto. ( NAN)
