A total of 880 patients in Jos and surroundings have benefited from a fourday private medical outreach rendered by the management of Salman hospital in collaboration with the Nigeria Medical Association in Plateau State.
Daily Trust reports that out of the 880 beneficiaries, 46 underwent various surgeries including a cesarean section, appendectomy, ovarian cysts and thyphoid perforation and myomectomy (Fibroid) with over 20 medical doctors from the Jos University Teaching hospital providing services.
The medical outreach which started on Wednesday ended on Sunday and Daily Trust gathered that the doctors had used the first two days for consultations, dispensment of drugs and screening of potential patients for surgeries while the last two days were used for the various degrees of surgeries.
The Managing Director of Salman hospital, Dr. Longwap Abdulazeez Saleh siad the out reach is an annual even which target 1000 patients adding that the NMA had assisted with resource persons including Dr. Dawal Kwande, the State NMA secretary.
Saleh who is also the Public Relations Officer of the NMA in the State said they had encountered three major cases during the screening adding that;"there was a child with congenital stenosis of the anus, someone with burnt
contracture, and another child with congenital fistula of the penis. We have their details and we are trying to get them sponsorship."
Daily Trust reports that the outreach which usually takes place at the beginning or end of the year is open to all irrespective of religious or ethnic affiliation.
