Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to confront rising security threats across parts of the state, warning that recent incursions by bandits, kidnappers, and cattle rustlers into northern local government areas remain a top priority for government action.

Speaking during the 34th Executive Council Meeting held at Government House Kano, the governor said the state is working “hand in hand with all security agencies” to neutralise emerging threats, restore stability, and reassure residents amid heightened concerns.

He listed the affected LGAs as Kunchi, Tsanyawa, Gwarzo, Kabo, Sumaila, Shanono, Tudun Wada, Doguwa, and Rogo, noting that coordinated operations are ongoing to block infiltration routes and secure rural communities.

“Despite isolated challenges, citizens should remain calm and be assured that the government is fully alert and determined to neutralise all threats to peace and order,” Yusuf said.

The governor also backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent declaration of a national emergency on security, describing it as “bold, timely and necessary” given the scale of insecurity in parts of the North.

He pledged Kano State’s full cooperation with security agencies in implementing the directive.

Yusuf’s remarks come amid multiple reported incursions by armed groups into border communities, heightening fears of a spillover from neighbouring states battling insecurity.

Beyond security, the governor highlighted progress in human capital development, particularly the state’s revived scholarship scheme. He disclosed that 350 postgraduate students have departed for foreign universities, while another 214 are currently enrolled in leading Nigerian institutions under government sponsorship.

He described the programme as a “strategic investment” aimed at producing innovators and future leaders capable of driving development.

During the meeting, the governor also announced the death of renowned Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing his passing as a significant loss to the Muslim ummah.
