A magistrates’ court in Osogbo, Osun State, has remanded nine persons at the Correctional Centre in Ilesa for attacking a traditional ruler in the state, the Onigege of Igege, Oba Kazeem Adio.
The police prosecutor, ASP John Idoko, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on October 15, 2021, at about 10am.

ASP Idoko said the accused armed themselves with sticks, cutlasses and other weapons and attacked the monarch at his palace and damaged his property and attempted to burn down the palace with 10 litres of petrol.
The accused are Talibi Ayinde, Yekeem Kamoru, Olaoye Sefiu, Musilumi Akanbi, Taofeeki Jabaru, Akeem Alaago, Semiyu Yekini, Mojidi Sefau and Akibu Alarape.
All the accused pleaded not guilty and their counsels, Ibrahim Abolusodun, Tunbosun Oladipupo and Najite Okobe, prayed the court to release them on bail, but the prosecutor objected to the bail application.
The Magistrate, Dr Olusegun Ayilara, thereafter ordered the remand of all the accused and adjourned the case.
