9 suspected cultists arrested during initiation in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have arrested nine suspected cultists for alleged cult-related activities in the state.

The suspects were apprehended at a hotel in the Orokosa community, located along the Benin-Auchi road in the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

They were reportedly caught while holding a meeting to initiate new members into their group.

The Corps’ Deputy Commander in Charge of Operations, Richard Balogun, confirmed the arrests.

He said the Corps acted on intelligence regarding a cult meeting taking place at the hotel, adding that security operatives subsequently stormed the venue and took nine suspects into custody.

Balogun noted that the group was in the middle of an initiation ceremony when the arrests were made.

Among those detained was the alleged leader (the “number one” person) of the cult group in that area.

He added that the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
