9 suspected robbers nabbed in Abuja

The police in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja have arrested nine suspected armed robbers said to be wreaking havoc in different areas of the city.

The suspects include Samuel Iduh, 42, from Otukpo, Benue State; Emmanuel Adakole, 36; Peter Agbo, 33 and Isaac Murphy from Federal Low-cost, Jos in Plateau State.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, said the suspects were arrested by the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) while acting on information given by residents.

He said the suspects were members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate that specialised in snatching cars at gunpoint and removing parked cars. 

He said Iduh, Agbo and Adakole were arrested in Abuja while the receiver of the stolen cars, Murphy, was arrested at Federal Low Cost Jos. He added that two locally made revolver pistols and two stolen cars were recovered from the suspects. 

The police spokesman also said the command arrested “one Suleiman Umar, 22 and one Stanley Egbebu, 27, who specialised in robbing cars from their victims at gunpoint.”

He said the suspects, on July 2 robbed one of their victims at gunpoint of his Toyota Avensis car, phones and other valuables at Nyanya phase 4 in Abuja and also stormed the Gwarinpa residence of one of their victims and robbed the occupant of her Toyota Corolla car, phones, laptop and other valuables at gunpoint on August 4.

He said the receiver of the stolen items, one Uchenna Kelechi, 33, was also arrested, adding that the stolen cars were recovered from the suspects. 

Manzah added that the command, while acting on tip-off from residents, also arrested two suspected notorious armed robbers, Ifeanyi Nwakwo (aka Laso 2 Minutes) and Kingsley Omaka (aka Light), “who specialise in storming the homes of their victims at night and robbing them of valuables at gunpoint.

“The locally made pistol used by the suspects for their operation has also been recovered.”

He said investigation on this case has been concluded and the case-file forwarded to the Command Legal Department for prosecution.
