A nine-year-old almajiri, Jafar Musa, was drowned in a river on Monday in Gada-Biyu community in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

A resident, Shuaibu Danjuma, said the incident happened around 2pm when the boy and three other boys went to swim.

 He explained that the victim who dived into the river failed to reappear again, hence that one of his companions rushed home and reported the incident.

 He further said that the boy’s corpse was discovered on Tuesday in a banana farm, noting that the victim was thereafter buried according to Islamic rites.

 Our reporter learnt that the victim was brought by his parents from Zaria, Kaduna State, to learn the Qur’an in Gada-Biyu.

The Chairman of Hausa residents in Gada-Biyu, Malam Dahiru Garba, confirmed the incident to our reporter through telephone on Tuesday.

The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Adeh Josephine, was yet to confirm the incident.
