Vigilantes have arrested a 22-year-old trader, identified as Muazu Usman, for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl in Pasali community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.

A member of the vigilante group in the area, Tanko Bala, said the incident happened on Tuesday, around 11am.

He said the girl was sent on an errand by her parents to buy Maggi cubes at a nearby shop, and the suspect allegedly lured the girl with two sachets of Cowbell milk and defiled her.

He said the girl’s parents discovered the incident when she returned home crying. 

“It was upon inquiry that the parents discovered the girl had been defiled.

“So, when the girl’s parents came along with the victim and explained the incident, the vigilante immediately led them to the shop and met the man,” he said.

He said the suspect earlier denied defiling the girl. However, after intensive questioning, the suspect confessed to playing with the girl’s body.

“It was at that point that the vigilante ordered the suspect to close the shop and took the girl to the hospital where doctors confirmed that the girl had been penetrated,” he said.

The vigilante member said the suspect had since been handed over to the police in the area.

A police source at the Gwagwalada division, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation.
