Ninety sanitation offenders have been arrested and prosecuted in line with environmental laws in Ekiti State. They were all apprehended during the July environmental sanitation exercise in the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, condemned the attempt by commercial drivers to interfere with the lawful operations of the sanitation enforcement team. According to her, some drivers tried to obstruct the team while they were transporting offenders from the Okesa to Fasuyi area.
She cautioned drivers and commercial motorcycle operators against unnecessary movement during sanitation exercises. Aluko-Ajisafe emphasized the need for cooperation from all quarters to avoid similar occurrences and called on union leaders to work with the government in upholding sanitation laws in the state.
