The carnival procession which began from Tafawe Balewa Square (TBS), through some streets in Victoria Island  and back to the TBS, also witnessed displays from all the local councils in Lagos and some secondary schools, each trying to outdo the other with colours.

Addressing fun seekers at the close of the carnival, the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, said the 93,000 pieces of carnival costumes was a demonstration by Lagos as a style and fashion centre. According to him, it would also have economic impact locally.

He said the carnival which would now be an annual event to be held only during the Easter period, was aimed to position Lagos on the international tourism map and create wealth.

Fun seekers who thronged the TBS to escape the holiday boredom, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the carnival.

Kunle Ajayi told Oodua Trust that he enjoyed every bit of it. “I am thrilled to be here. It is exciting. I am glad I came.”

“The scene is so beautiful here. I have never seen such a spectacle. If the Lagos State government improves on it, it would be great,” Funke Adesina, said.

But the celebrations were not without hitches. Because access to several streets around Marina, CMS and Obalende were curtailed, our correspondent observed heavy traffic congestion around major routes around Marina and Obalande.

Obinna Eze, a driver, told our correspondent that he had been in traffic for two hours without much progress at Obalende.
