Pre-tournament activities for the 9th edition of Moses Orkuma Unity football competition commenced over the weekend with a well-attended seminar for officials and players of participating clubs.
The annual grassroots competition is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the iconic Joseph Sarwuan Tarka Stadium, Gboko.
In his remarks, the founder of the tournament and former Flying Eagles star, Moses Orkuma, emphasised the importance of discipline, unity, talent development, and professionalism in grassroots football.
The former Al-Ahly Benghazi, Etoile Sportive du Sahel, Stade Gabesien and US Monastir midfielder noted that the competition was created not only to discover young talents but also to educate players and club officials on the true values of football and sportsmanship.
“As you are all aware, this is a grassroots competition with a touch of professionalism. Therefore, we must uphold high standards at all time,” said the Union Military SC of Libya defensive midfielder.
Similarly, speakers at the seminar encouraged participating teams to embrace fair play, teamwork, and respect for the rules of the competition.
On their part, the participants described the seminar as impactful and educative, with many club officials praising the organizers for adding an educational dimension to the tournament.
According to them, the seminar will help improve the conduct of players and officials throughout the competition.
The climax of the event was the presentation of certificates of participation to all the 16 participating football clubs and academies in recognition of their commitment to grassroots football development.
In addition, high qualify footballs were distributed to the teams to support their preparation for the tournament.
The 9th Edition of the competition which seeks to identify hidden talents for development is expected to showcase top young talents from across the state.
