The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has paid an unscheduled visit to some of major markets where he pleaded with traders and other business community to avoid indiscriminate increase of prices of commodities so as to alleviate difficulties being encountered by the masses in purchasing foodstuff for their family.

The monarch during the visit interacted with some of the traders to assess the prices of some commodities, especially grains, vegetables and other food stuff in the market.

The royal father also preached to the traders to imbibe the culture of subsidising their commodities by adding little gains with a view to making foodstuff affordable to the masses and other vulnerable in the society.

“Almighty Allah blesses businesses and trading, which add little gains that make it affordable for people to buy,” he added.

The traditional ruler commended traders and other marketers for their resilience, considering the cost of transportation following the removal of fuel subsidy and pleaded with them to see how they could make the prices within the reach of the masses without incurring losses in their business.

At the Wunti market, the emir also interacted with traders selling vegetables and advised them to go for little gains considering the economic hardship, adding that “Too much again particularly on food items is not Godly.”

While speaking to the meat sellers at Wunti market, the traditional ruler advised them to observe all hygiene practices to ensure that people get to buy healthy meat for consumption to reduce risks of diseases that are associated with beef. He equally bought some kilos of beef from a trader.

On their part, some of the traders commended the emir for taking the initiative to go around the markets to see things for himself as one Malam Kabiru described the visit as a demonstration of good leadership qualities.

The traders assured the monarch that despite the economic hardship, they would not hike the prices to ensure that the poor were able to afford the items with little money.

Our correspondent observed that hundreds of traders and passersby who stormed the markets and cheered the emir during the visit.
