Ali, who spoke to Fever Pitch yesterday after Nigeria were announced as African Athletics Championship 2014 runners up with a total of 24 medals comprising  eight gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals also added that the team will hope to replicate the form at the IAAF and Rio Olympics in two years’ time.
“All I can say is that it has been a good year for Nigeria and its athletes in the events of the past few weeks and hopefully the form will continue for a long time to come, our prayer is to take the world by storm at the Rio Olympics in Brazil” the former long jumper who represented Nigeria and Africa in several international competitions in the past said.
The 19th African Athletics Championships ended in Marrakesh, Morocco with Nigeria who looked set to retain the title won at the last edition 2012 in Porto Novo suffering last minutes upset by eventual winners South Africa.
It will be recalled that at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Nigeria was placed eighth on the medal table with 11 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals, with the athletes putting up amazing last minute displays, carting home nine medals, four gold and five silver s few hours to the end of the Games to complete a memorable tournament for the country.
