A/Ibom govt cautions against bush burning

The Akwa Ibom State Government has cautioned its citizens against indiscriminate bush burning to avoid fire disasters.
The Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo, said due to the current weather and economic realities, it was necessary for people to take full responsibility for the safety of their environment.
Speaking in Upenekang in Ibeno Local Government Area at the presentation of relief materials to victims of a fire disaster, Mr Ekpo called on Nigerians to be security conscious at all times to avoid unwarranted emergencies.
Ekpo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr Nkopuruk Ekaiko, said the relief materials were provided by the state government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The Chairman of Ibeno LGA, High Chief Williams Mkpah, commended the donors, adding that the gesture would help resettle the victims.
Chief Mkpah further said the council would continue to sensitise the people on safety consciousness to prevent fire emergencies.
