What is your role as a Nigerian woman craving for change in the political system? You must register before you can vote; a lot of Nigerian women take this first individual electoral process for granted. Such as having the careless attitude of not ensuring that they are properly registered to vote during elections. The result of your failure to register is that you are denied the right to vote and because you cannot vote, you cannot choose your political leaders.
If you are in support of change in Nigeria and its governance, with your votes, you have the power to remove corrupt, greedy, selfish and non-performing politicians who have in the past failed to provide the needed dividends of democracy. You should ensure that you are registered to vote during election. You have to kill the negative attitude that you cannot create any significant change with your vote. This is because no matter how much our corrupt politicians want to rig the elections, they will find it increasingly difficult to rig if all the registered voters go to vote to elect their own leaders.
On the other hand, say no to corrupt politicians who do not respect the rule of law and deceive you with propaganda.
Women should be ready to create a political change and say ‘Yes We Can’. You have the right to elect and choose your government. If you take your rights to vote for granted, you will suffer the socio-economic effects such as corruption, unemployment, poverty, poor healthcare, housing problems, insecurity, lack of electricity, poor roads and rural development. All of these basic socio-economic needs are what you have been deprived and denied because some politicians opt to be corrupt and use Nigeria’s wealth for their own selfish ends.
One way to end this menace and recycling of corrupt politicians are as follows: Beware of sweet talking politicians who are out to use and dump you because such politicians, as soon as they use you to get into any political office, forget all the promises and pledges they made and begin to execute and implement their selfish agenda. Secondly, beware of politicians who want to buy your votes with money. These politicians think you have a poverty mentality; they give you money to satisfy your immediate hunger and quest for material luxury. What you need is change. Also, advise your children whom some corrupt politicians want to use as thugs to snatch ballot boxes and fight during elections to refrain from doing so, because they do not want your children to have a good future. Instead of exchanging money for your vote, use your vote to exchange for basic social and economic infrastructure, equity and justice and respect for the rule of law.
Stand up and refrain from voting corrupt politicians to govern. reject their money. don’t sell your conscience. what you sow, you shall reap.
If you have the right attitude towards elections, Nigeria’s political and socio- economic system will experience a positive significant change.
